- Revisiting Court Report Writing
(Worth 3 Continuing Ed. Credits)
We believe so strongly that Court Report Writing is important for ALL CASAs that we are going to offer TWO opportunities to attend:

When: April 15, 2010

Where: Advocates for Children Office

10855 E. Bethany Drive, Aurora, CO 80014

Time: 10am to 12Noon OR 6pm-8pm
Not only are CASAs’ court reports required by the judge for every hearing, they are the most efficient and effective way you can advocate for your CASA kids. If you missed court report writing during training, or if you struggle with writing court reports, or feel that you could use a refresher, join Stacie and Kristin at the CASA office on April 15 to revisit court report writing. We will go over the basics, give you samples and answer any questions you have about court reports.
Both times will teach the same curriculum. Please choose the time that works best for you! Please note that if you come to the morning session you can stick around for the Lunch and Learn with Comitis! Great opportunity to meet other CASAs and visit with your Case Coordinator.

Dogs don’t read…but they love a good story.
Wagging Tales introduces children to a four-legged friend…and then the magic begins. Each child selects a fun book to read to his/her new doggie pal. Tails wag as tales are told and each child practices his/her reading skills to a new friend who loves a good story and won’t criticize or interrupt.
In addition to a wonderfully supportive reading experience, each child is rewarded with a new book to keep.
Please contact Justine at 303-328-2348 to sign up.
- CASA Flix and Book Club take on Sexual Abuse
April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and we want to take the opportunity begin a discussion about the tough, but important topic of sexual abuse to children. Through these two different forms of media we hope to gain an understanding of the destructive impact this abuse has on the child victim, and to take a look, from the perpetrator’s point of view, into why this terrible abuse occurs.
CASA Flix—Thursday, April 29th, 11am-2:00pm
Worth 3 Continuing Ed. Credits
We will be watching a two hour episode of Oprah followed by discussion. In this episode Oprah shows a series of extremely candid interviews she has with admitted child molesters and their treatment provider. Her in-depth discussions are incredibly revealing and provide us with a glimpse into the dynamics behind their horrendous crimes. Please note that these interviews are sometimes graphic. If you’re interested in watching this episode, but can’t attend on the 29th, click here to find the segments on Oprah’s website.
Book Club—Tuesday, May 25th, 11am-12:30pm or 6-7:30pm
Worth 3 Continuing Ed. Credits if you read and attend Book Club
Worth 2 if you read and don't attend Book Club
Come prepared to discuss The Trauma Myth: The Truth About the Sexual Abuse of Children—And Its Aftermath, by Susan A. Clancy (here on Amazon). Based in 10 years of clinical research, Susan A. Clancy’s analysis challenges accepted theories that sexual abuse to children involves fear, force or coercion. Rather, Clancy’s theories assert that child victims are often traumatized further when they fail to associate these feelings with the act itself—feeling, instead, confusion and complex emotions rather than simply recognizing violence or fear of a perpetrator (who, 90% of the time, is someone they know and trust). Statistics show that one in five women and one in 10 men are victims of sexual abuse, at an average victim age of 10 years old. For more information about this book visit: http://traumamyth.com/.
