This year, while most of Denver was intently watching the sporting contest taking place at Coors Field, almost 400 of Denver's movers and shakers were gathered at the Hyatt Regency Tech Center to honor an athlete whose long career played out on another venue: the basketball court. Former Nuggets player, later head coach, Bill Hanzlik, was honored by Advocates for Children as its 2007 Friend of Children award winner. Today Hanzlik is CEO of the Gold Crown Foundation, an organization that helps youth build character and self-esteem through sports.
With Emcees Libby Weaver and Advocates' board chair Mike Krza at the helm, the Red Wagon Ball celebrated Hanzlik's accomplishments. Then, with celebrity auctioneer Gary Corbett whipping up enthusiasm for a host of great live auction items, the crowd helped raise over $250,000 for Advocates for Children.
